CDCP care with no surprises in the chair
Simcoe Smile Dental accepts the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) at our office at 936 Simcoe Street North. Because we bill Sun Life directly, eligible patients pay only their co-payment, if any, plus any difference between CDCP fees and our standard fees.
The CDCP pays according to its own fee schedule, which can be lower than the standard Ontario fee guide. So even with 100% coverage, you may have a small balance. Before any treatment, we give you a clear estimate of what the CDCP pays and what, if anything, you owe.
What the CDCP covers at our office
CDCP patients commonly use their coverage for care in our family dentistry program.
Exams and X-rays
Regular checkups and X-rays are core covered services.
Cleaning and fluoride
Teeth cleaning (scaling) and fluoride are covered preventive care.
Fillings and root canals
Fillings and root canal treatment are covered.
Extractions and emergencies
Extractions, including many emergency extractions, and dental emergencies are covered.
Dentures
Complete and partial dentures are covered. Some partial dentures need preauthorization.
Not covered
Purely cosmetic services, such as teeth whitening, are not covered by the CDCP.

Who qualifies in the 2026-27 benefit year
You may qualify if you are a Canadian resident for tax purposes, have an adjusted family net income under $90,000, have no access to private dental insurance and filed your most recent tax return. Under $70,000, the CDCP pays 100% of CDCP fees; $70,000 to $79,999, it pays 60% (you pay 40%); $80,000 to $89,999, it pays 40% (you pay 60%).

Is everything free with the CDCP?
No. Depending on your income, your co-payment may be 0%, 40% or 60%, and CDCP fees can be lower than standard Ontario fees, leaving a small difference. We always give you a written estimate before treatment.
Do some treatments need approval first?
Yes. Some services, such as certain crowns, partial dentures and major treatment, need CDCP preauthorization. We handle the paperwork and tell you what’s approved before any work starts.
Can I use the CDCP for a dental emergency?
Yes. Emergency exams, X-rays and many urgent treatments such as extractions are covered. We offer same-day emergency appointments, so call us first and we’ll confirm your coverage while you’re on your way.
I missed the CDCP renewal deadline. Can I still get coverage?
Yes. The renewal window closed June 1, 2026, but you can submit a new application for the 2026-27 benefit year. There may be a gap in coverage while it’s processed, so call us and we’ll help you plan treatment around your dates.
Do children qualify for the CDCP?
Yes, children in eligible families are covered. Eligibility is based on family income, insurance status and tax filing, the same as for adults.

How do I apply for the CDCP?
Apply online at canada.ca or by phone through Service Canada. You need to have filed your most recent tax return. Once approved, bring your member card or welcome letter to your first visit.
