Exam of teeth and gums
Your dentist examines your teeth, gums and mouth, including an oral cancer screening.

Depending on your teeth, we may take an X-ray to find cavities between them.

We gently measure the spaces between your gums and teeth. Healthy gums have shallow spaces, while gum disease makes them deeper.

Cleaning and polish

How often should I have a checkup?
Most patients should come in every six months. If you have gum disease or a history of cavities, our dentists may suggest coming in more often.
Will I need an X-ray?
Not always. Depending on the condition of your teeth, an X-ray may be needed to check for cavities between your teeth.
Is a cleaning part of the checkup?
Yes. Your dentist examines your teeth and gums, then your teeth are professionally cleaned and polished in the same visit.
